Is google moving to P2P? February 20, 2006

Spotted on battelemedia : Google.com has many domains pointing to it! All the below sites point to google
http://www.apply94.com/
http://www.baidu-inc.com/
http://www.boogybox.com/
http://www.cp658.com/
http://www.ikbss.com/It can be pointed to Lexar, Google Team up to offer USB Flash Drives with Web Applications(NE Asia) With this deal Google would use the applications(picasa , Google desktop) on the USB drive to automatically upload content to Google Base. But the revenue potential increases significantly if Google leverages all that distributed content into a consolidated arena. That would drive content, eyeballs and ads on Google Base. With more and …

AOL ventures P2P February 19, 2006

AOL division, time warner inc will use a peer-to-peer approach used in kaaza and Bittorrent in delivering high-definition Internet video to consumers next . AOL like other ISP is facing problems such as congested broadband pipes. And 93 percent of those pipes are owned by cable and telephone companies wanting to offer their own high-bandwidth services to consumers.AOL plans to borrow space on its customers’ PCs to store video content at the edge of the network. As customers begin ordering video content, small parts of the files are cached on their hard drives. When a consumer orders …

Your Opinion - Open Discussion February 15, 2006

Myself and DING have been having an offline discussion on EPIC and complementing ideas. I thought the best way to have everyone’s input would be to post it on the blog and see what are other thoughts on this front, so here we goPosted by DING:
P2P cannot solve the personal physical issues yet. I am creating a alternative roadmap compare to the EPIC format as you can see there is more than one way to the future. Google’s Grid is still transmission stage work because of its INDEXing nature. What I really want is vision based network, because …

Google EPIC - Evolving Personalized Information Construct February 13, 2006

I came across this really amazing concept called EPIC. Thanks to DING, one of the frequent vistors to this blog for pointing it out to me. This is not really pure P2P but it was too good to just ignore and not add a post about.Newsmasters are an emerging group of news editors which utilize new tools and techniques to create unique content streams on specialized topics by tapping largely into the RSS content universe as well as in other openly reusable sources of news and information. In the fascinating scenario explored in this story, newsmasters will be the key news …

Peer to Peer Commerce - PCommerce February 10, 2006

Peers within a Peer-to-Peer network can provide a lot of various resources, e.g. information, disk space, memory space or computing power, and they can deliver different services, e.g. create or provide files, compute complex calculations or act as a required part of the network. To avoid “free-riding” on these resources, contents or services and to balance out the relationship between providers and consumers, market mechanisms have to be established. This requires a fundamental framework which reflects peer-based business models and allows market participants to offer, discover, and consume required resources. Furthermore, mechanisms for accounting …

What is JXTA? February 9, 2006

Courtesy: JXTA.ORGProject JXTA started as a research project incubated at Sun Microsystems under the guidance of Bill Joy and Mike Clary. Its goal is to explore a vision of distributed network computing using peer-to-peer topology, and to develop basic building blocks and services that would enable innovative applications for peer groups. The project specification and implementation code can be found at www.jxta.org. This open source project is licensed under the Apache Software License, encouraging others to join in …

P2P History and Security February 6, 2006

P2P technology is nothing new, but the medium is. The Internet has extended P2P networks further out than we ever thought possible in the P2P heydays when LANtastic and Windows for Workgroups were the best things around. The ICQ messaging program got the current P2P train rolling in 1996. Programs such as Kazaa, Gnutella, FreeNet, the myriad of instant messaging applications, and even the SETI@home screen saver and Google Compute Web browser utilities are all considered P2P applications. Groove Networks products are all about P2P. Web services, including Microsoft’s .NET framework, have a strong foundation in P2P as well. In a …

Parallel Programs on Grids - P2P-MPI

A Peer-to-Peer Framework for Robust Execution of Message Passing Parallel Programs on Grids

A lot of work is being done at Universit´e Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg on the development of P2P-MPI, a middleware aimed at computational grids. From the programmer point of view, P2P-MPI provides a message-passing programming model which enables the development of MPI applications for grids. Its originality lies in its adaptation to unstable environments. First, the peer-to-peer design of P2P-MPI allows for a dynamic discovery of collaborating resources. Second, it gives the user the possibility to adjust the robustness of an execution thanks to an internal …
